A Personal Shift Towards Tangible Memories
One thing I’m doing more of in 2026 is printing photos.
Over the years, I’ve used a Fuji Instax and a Polaroid SX-70 on and off. I’ve printed albums here and there, ordered a few loose prints, and always meant to do more, but I was never consistent. Printing felt expensive, time-consuming, or like something I’d “get to later.” But at some point, I had to ask myself: what’s the point of taking all these photos if I don’t do something with them?
That pull toward tangible memories has been growing for a long time, living away from our families, our parents becoming grandparents, and it became impossible to ignore after the birth of my son. Every moment feels fleeting. Every memory feels worth holding onto.
Film forces me to slow down, whether it's instant, 35mm, or 120mm. I don't have an endless amount of memory or the newest technology in my hands. It's slow, it's intentional, and sometimes it's messy - just like real life. I love a beautiful, crisp photo as much as the next photographer, but the light leaks, the grain, the character of the camera brings you into the emotion of the moment.
How Motherhood Changed the Way I See My Photography
During my son’s birthday weekend, I brought out my Instax again. Watching a physical photo print of my son and nephew, right there in my hands, shifted something in me. Yes, we took a photo as a new family when we came home from the hospital. But holding it was different. It awakened something: it made the memory feel grounded, permanent, real.
Since August, I’ve been intentionally printing photos at least every other week and many more during holidays and special occasions. The joy these prints bring, not just to me, but to my husband, our parents, my nephew, and our extended family, has been priceless.
These aren’t just photos.
They’re tangible reminders of our memories together.

I won’t be gatekeeping either. Not everyone wants professional lab heirlooms, and that’s okay. While this is a service I’ll be offering more intentionally in 2026, all current and past galleries already include access to a professional print lab, and I’ll now be adding a more personal, guided experience for couples who want it.
If you choose not to order heirloom prints from me, I’ll still help you find the best photo printing options for your budget. I’ll be honest: I’ve used Walgreens or CVS same-day prints in a pinch. I always regret it with the unclean rollers, crooked edges, and inconsistent color, BUT, a printed memory is still more valuable than a forgotten one.
